Benefits of Dhikr: Remembering Allah Throughout the Day
Dhikr means remembering Allah. It can include words of praise, glorification, seeking forgiveness, sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and other authentic forms of remembrance. Dhikr helps a Muslim keep the heart connected to Allah during ordinary moments of the day.
The Quran states that hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah (Quran 13:28). This verse highlights the spiritual value of remembering Allah. Dhikr can be practiced after prayer, in the morning and evening, while walking, during quiet moments, and whenever a believer wants to turn attention back toward Allah.
For children, Dhikr can be introduced through short and meaningful routines. Parents can teach a few simple phrases with their meanings rather than asking children to memorize long lists without understanding. For example, children can learn to say Alhamdulillah when expressing gratitude and SubhanAllah when appreciating Allah’s creation.
A family can create a five-minute remembrance routine after one daily prayer. The routine might include a short Quran passage, a few authentic adhkar, and a simple dua. The key is consistency. The purpose is to nurture love and awareness of Allah, not to turn worship into a stressful checklist.
Quran learning and Dhikr naturally support each other. As students improve their Quran reading, they gain greater access to the words of revelation and can bring those meanings into daily life. A balanced Islamic education can combine Quran reading, Tajweed, memorization, understanding, prayer, and character development.
